Camp Objectives
High Five: PHCD is Canada's quality standard for organizations providing recreation and sports programs to children aged 6 to 12 and is based on five Principles of healthy child development that are essential for quality programs. This foundation comes from extensive research into what constitutes quality experiences for children, and the practical application of the Principles in programs across Canada.
Our partner organization NWT Recreation and Parks Association is the NWT authorized provider
Participants will be introduced to the six steps recreation leaders can use to design and deliver a recreation program or a special event. Effective design and delivery of each activity results in successful, safe and enjoyable recreation experiences.
Completion of this course can go towards your Recreation North certificate in Northern Recreation Leadership
Explore some of the things recreation leaders need to know and be able to do when working or volunteering in their community. Your own path in this field will emerge as you learn more about yourself and identify opportunities to grow as a recreation leader.

Develop leadership skills and learn how to OBSERVE and IMPROVE fundamental movement skills by: analyzing and identifying the various stages of development for fundamental movement skills; applying a six-step process to teaching fundamental movement skills; creating safe games where children can practice fundamental movement skills.

It is not enough to know how to swim but we also need to develop Water Smart leaders to deliver drowning prevention messages and programming and develop safety awareness.
MRA has partnered with the Lifesaving Society of Alberta and NWT to develop leaders in water safety and water smart resources for participants.
